“Texas Gano” sired by Revolutionary out of a Rock Hard Ten mare. Standing 16 hands, 2018 model. Gano had a respectable career at the track, retiring sound in Oct 2023. He’s been in the barn here for a few months now and has been let down, turned out and lightly restarted. Gano is a pet to have in the barn and nice to work with and around. He comes to the gate to be caught, pastures alone or with others, hauls well and is just consistent in every way.... (read more) When he initially got to us he was a bit tight and had some work to do on his feet (they’re good, just needed to adjust the angles a bit) so he hasn’t been my focus as others were more ready to really get into a program. We’ve gone through a few shoe cycles now, he is shod up front and barefoot behind happily and good for the farrier. He’s loosened up a lot as he’s let down and seems to enjoy just being a horse. We’ve got under ten rides on him at this point, sporadically over the weeks. I could go on and on about this one, while he isn’t the fanciest mover with the 10+ jump he is the reliable one. As I’ve gotten older I’ve come to see the value in the ones that can sit for weeks on end and come out the same. The ones that’ll let you climb on after a 20 degree temp drop with whipping winds and walk off on the buckle or entertain whatever thing it is that day you want to do with them. The horses that will quietly tote around a little more timid rider and not hold it against you if you make a mistake. While Gano is still a bit green, he’s a very reasonable sort. He’ll trot off in a cute little frame and canter around softly, entertain some jumping or maybe going out for a hack if that’s what suits you. His movement and style over a fence has only improved with time and I think there’s quite a bit more in there to see as he learns how to carry himself under saddle correctly. We are starting to put baby courses together, he’s seen a variety of boxes, coops, gates etc and been over all. He’s been very willing and brave overall. You won’t be kicking every step of the way with him, however he doesn’t seem to have any true ambitions for speed and the brakes are good. He’s not particularly spooky and doesn’t do anything naughty. Will he pack around your dead beginner? Not at the moment. But will he be a reasonable partner for your teen that’s comfortable jumping around 2’ at the local shows and ready for their own horse or your adult ammy that’s getting back into it and just wants to be safe with a willing mount? Absolutely. I see him as that horse we all know and see around town at the local shows and out on the trails. You know the one, bopping around the long stirrup while Susie grabs him in the mouth or celebrating with an AA as they make it around the tadpole cross country course. He is THAT guy! So while he’s probably not going to the Olympics, he’s going to be a star in his owners eyes because they’ll have something they can just go have fun on. I believe he’d entertain nearly any discipline, we’ve really thrown him to the wolves here. We’ve pulled him out after weeks off and picked up right where we left off. Hacks out of the arena alone in an open field? No problem. Flappy tarp on the boat by the arena? No problem. He’s just the good guy that everyone knows and loves (and he’s not bad to look at with his rico-suave hair and big doe eyes)! We’ve got lots of videos of him available as well as photos on the website. We left the sound in on his last ride here as it was truly SO WINDY out and really shows how great his brain is. He is eligible for the retired racehorse project and has no vices.
