I am a horsemanship trainer in Durham Maine with a small, relaxed facility. Due to ongoing health challenges and upcoming medical procedures, I am looking to lease out both of my personal horses at a very low rate, in exchange for help with their care and help around the farm. Both of these ponies are absolutely wonderful.
The cost is $150/month per horse and would require an average of 1 hour of help each week (holding for the vet/farrier, picking up grain, putting out hay, sweeping, sanding, etc as needed).... (read more) Typically my ponies lease for $500/month including lessons. The lease includes multiple rides per week and lessons, at a beautiful farm with an indoor arena, outdoor arena, fields for riding, etc.
I am seeking one or two balanced, confident walk/trot/canter riders who are interested in all-around good horsemanship, are dependable and can make a commitment for at least six months. Please only contact me (call or text) if you have the flexibility and time to help with their care. Both ponies are right around 13.3 to 14 hands. They can carry riders up to 150 pounds.
Huey - Haflinger/QH X, 17 years, 14hh:
He has been my personal horse for the past 14 years. Done everything under the sun and has extensive training. Fabulous lateral work, open gates from his back, drags logs, does obstacles and is a very consistent ride in the arena. I have both western and English (dressage and hunt seat) tack for Huey. Due to his age and confirmation he does not jump any longer.
Franklin - Paint/Hackney X?, 13 years, 13.3hh:
While Franklin has far less training as I've only had him for two years, he is a fabulous, honest horse with tons of feel. He is wonderful at trail riding and a pleasure in the fields and arena. I have English tack for Franklin. He is incredibly sensitive and requires someone who really has good balance and a calm demeanor. He is an absolute joy to ride and be around!
