Additional Comments
Spurning is a 4-gaited daughter of first prize stallion Parker frá Sólheimum. She has been with us for several years now, allowing an exploration of topics within her training. Spurning has excelled in dressage maneuvers, particularly demonstrating balance in the trot and canter. The sensitivity and lightness she exhibits to the aides have proven her to be a natural in bridleless riding. She has competed with success in the International Liberty Horse Association’s virtual shows in both bridleless riding and liberty horse classes.... She has been used for seat lessons within our riding school, with excellent skills on the lunge line. Ground driving has also been incorporated within her training.
Most recently Spurning competed in our first annual Taktur Freestyle Competition. In this competition, our intern completed a freestyle comprised of combined liberty work, bridleless riding, and the two even incorporated some of Spurning’s trick training! Make sure to check out this lovely performance on our website.
At the end of October, Spurning also attended the International Liberty Horse Championships in Lexington, KY. At this event, she competed in the Combined Class. This requires a combination of skills in a set pattern including liberty from the ground, bridleless riding, and the rider mounting from the lay-down. This was an incredible experience for her that was a comprehensive test of her education.
Spurning has become a favorite of many passerby’s, no doubt in relation to her exuberant personality and bright nature. If she hasn’t already turned your eye as you walk by her stall or paddock, she’s more than likely to offer a nicker as you approach.
Considerations:
Spurning has been tölt trained. However, some riders might find her tölt more difficult. The rider level requested reflects this consideration.
Spurning has been diagnosed with intermittent “head shaking” problem possibly caused by trigeminal nerve stimulation/irritation. Though this has not prevented any competitive pursuits thus far, special considerations should be taken.
Ideal rider level: Intermediate and up.
