- Gaited, Started Under Saddle
Additional Comments
Lysir has the perfect ingredients to make an ideal riding horse for someone that wants to enjoy the trails, explore dressage, and even do a bit of competition on the Icelandic oval track.
He is five gaited but pace is untrained. His basic gaits walk, trot, and canter are clear beated and well defined. His canter is especially beautiful and lofty with incredible balance on both curved and straight trajectories. Lysir has a natural tölt that has been easy to train and develop despite his young age.... (read more) All of his gaits are enjoyable to ride and easily accessible, even for the less experienced rider.
Lysir has a very laid back attitude about life and overall has more of a tendency to be a bit lazy as opposed to forward thinking. This makes him very easy to manage under saddle. He was a very simple horse to start under saddle and has been lovely to work with from the beginning. He was guided through his first show by one of our interns from Iceland this fall, competing in Green Horse Tölt. He had a lovely start to his time on the oval, placing second and handling the new show environment well.
It should come as no surprise that Lysir is such a delight to ride. Lysir’s father Þröstur frá Hvammi is known for his great temperament and exceptional gaits. Þröstur is one of the highest evaluated stallions in North America and is also know for being a quality breeding stallion. Lysir’s mother Ljúfa from Destiny Farms is also very well bred under the honor prize stallion Hrynjandi and a quality first prize mare. Jane Thomas, Lysir’s owner and breeder has raised him since he was born. He has been trained exclusively here at Taktur.
Considerations:
Lysir just turned five and has had less than a year of total training. This means he still needs more exposure training in respects to trail riding and going on trips off the home farm.
Many of Lysir’s traits mean that he could become the perfect horse for a beginner rider but due to his young age we think this would only be suitable if that rider planned to work him in conjunction with a trainer long term so that he can grow into the horse we truly believe he can be.
Ideal rider level: Intermediate and up.
