Humanistic Horsemanship

Antioch, IL

Humanistic Horsemanship is the school of training created by Kelli Ann Little. It is based in psychology and takes its roots in Carl Rogers’ person-centered theory of therapy, which teaches counsellors that the only materials they need to facilitate change and healing are empathy, positive regard and time. In training horses, too, this is all you need to facilitate change and development in a horse. All you need is empathy, positive regard and time.

Training
True natural horsemanship is provided by horseman Kelli Ann Little who specialises in starting young and fresh horses. Whether you have a horse who's never been touched, a young colt who needs to be started or an old grey mare in need of a tune up and an attitude adjustment, Kelli is there with whatever they need to succeed.

She offers 30, 60, or 90 day bootcamps to get horses started on groundwork, riding and mindset but recommends that owners do no rush--change takes time and the slower and more completely you go, the better your end result is! After the initial foundation-laying stage that typically lasts about two weeks, Kelli believes in involving the horse's human in every step of the training process to maximise their success once they move on together.

Kelli also offers team training (lessons) in both Western and English disciplines for human and horse to do together to help the team come together and move together in the most fluid and connected way possible. Where both partners are listening to and respecting each other, and moving forward as equal parts of pair.
