Barbara fell in love with horses at the age of 9, when she got her first Arabian/Welsh pony. The daughter of non-horse people, she and her siblings learned from trial and error and by being active in FFA and 4-H about horses. Barbara Joy began competing at 13 and with the help of her older sister Betti, became a force to be reckoned with as a western equitation rider!... (read more) As the years moved forward, Barbara Joy enjoyed success in the show ring with both Morgans and Arabians and trained professionally for almost 10 years, garnering hundreds of wins at state, regional and national levels. She later gave up her professional status and continued to show as an amateur. In 2006, she stopped showing and decided to enjoy trail riding and just being with her own horses on a non-competitive level.

While she was formally trained through Trained by Equissage in Round Hill, Virginia. for equine/canine massage therapy in 1999, and immediately began working with creatures, it was after she stopped showing that she decided to dedicate her life to assist equines and canines with their health and wellness and to educate their humans in the importance of preventative modalities.

Barbara Joy often comments that if she watches a rider on a horse for 5-10 minutes, she can determine where the equine will have potential issues...often times without realizing it riders put additional stress on their mounts because of talking on the phone, watching over a shoulder and looking down, not having a quiet seat and so forth. She talks with her equine client's human about what can be done and works hand in hand to attempt to remedy it.
