Video Ad Information

A video Ad will allow you to embed your video directly into your Ad Detail Page. You can upload your video from our website at the time you place your ad, or directly through YouTube or Google. If you opt to upload directly to YouTube or Google, special code will be provided by by either of those sites that you will use when you embed your video on your ad with EquineNow.

Making a Video

To make your video, you will need either a digital camcorder or an analog camcorder. If you have a digital camcorder, your job will be much easier because your digital video can be transferred directly to your computer, either by the USB or FireWire port, or by inserting the DVD that you have recorded into your computer's DVD reader. Typical digital formats are Digital8, HDV, MiniDV, or any of the DVD formats. Once you have transferred the video from the camera, you can open it into an editing program (if needed) and then uploaded.

If you happen to have one of the older analog camcorders, you can still make a video. Just record it to tape (VHS, VHS-C, SVHS-C, 8mm, or Hi8) then use a converter box connected to the camera and your computer's USB port, or connect the camera to a video capture card in your computer to convert (digitize) the video and save it on your computer. Once digitized in this manner it can be edited (if needed) and then uploaded.

Editing a Video

If your digitized video is not of the quality you would like to present on the web, you'll need to edit it. There are several programs such as Apple's iMovie or Windows MovieMaker that will allow you to edit and enhance the video.

Uploading from our Site

Our site utilizes a special interface to allow you to upload your video to YouTube/Google transparently when you place your ad. The video will need to meet the requirements of YouTube (see below), but you don't need to have a separate YouTube/Google account which will save you some time.

Uploading to YouTube

Your video will need to be saved in a format that YouTube can accept in order to upload. Unless you're a professional video producer, we recommend that you save your videos as either QuickTime .MOV, Windows .AVI, or .MPG files— these are the most common formats and they work well within YouTube's system. YouTube specifically recommends the MPEG4 (Divx, Xvid) format at 320x240 resolution with MP3 audio (if audio is desired). Resizing your video to these specifications before uploading will help your clips look better on YouTube. For more detailed information about YouTube, please visit the YouTube support area.

Uploading to Google Video

Currently, Google accepts videos in a wide range of popular formats. The fastest way to get your videos into Google Video is using their recommended specifications, such as MPEG4 format with MP3 audio or MPEG2 with MP3.

Technical Requirements:

  • Google accepts many popular formats, such as AVI, ASF, QuickTime, Windows Media and MPEG formats. For example, .avi, .asf, .mov, .wmv, .mpg, .mpeg, .mp4, .ra, .ram, and .mod are all acceptable file extensions. Please note that Google currently does not accept Flash files. Specific video codecs we accept include H.264, H.263, MPEG 1/2/4 and motion JPEG.
  • The video must contain recognizable video content (video container files that do not contain video will not be accepted).
  • The frame rate should be above 12 frames per second.
  • The bitrate should be above 260 Kbps.
Quality Recommendations:

If possible, Google suggests uploading the original source file and recommends the specifications below for maximum quality and reasonable file size:
  • MPEG4 (mp3 or mp4 audio) at 2 mbps
  • MPEG2 (mp3 or mp4 audio) at 5 mbps
  • 30 frames per second
  • 640x480 resolution
  • 4:3 frame
  • de-interlace

Adding your video to EquineNow

When you select the Video Ad package, you will be presented with an option to upload your video directly from the ad form, or embed the special code you receive from Google/YouTube if you have already uploaded your video separate from our site. We provide a text box where you can paste the HTML EMBED code provided to you by YouTube or Google Video. Your embedded video will replace the position of the Primary Photo on your Ad Detail page. The Primary Photo will be moved down below the embedded video. If you should change your video at any time, you can replace the EMBED code with the new version provided by Google or YouTube.

To get the embed code from your Google video, follow these steps:

  1. Visit Google Video and find the video you want.
  2. Click on the "Email - Embed" button on the right-hand side of the playback page.
  3. Click the "Embed HTML" link, then copy and paste the HTML code to your webpage.
  4. If you'd like your embedded video to begin playing automatically, go to the end of the embed code and add FlashVars="autoPlay=true".
If the HTML code doesn't appear in the Google window and you've uploaded the video, you may need to change your video's settings. Here's how:
  1. Sign in at https://upload.video.google.com.
  2. Click "Edit Video Info >>" beside your video in the "Video Information" column.
  3. Click "Advanced Options."
  4. Select "Allow users to place this video on their own websites" next to "Embedded video."
  5. Click "Save Video Information."
